Tonight after the 3-4 class I teach there was this little girl that couldn't find her dad. No one knew where he was. I went to the front desk to see if they could pull up her number but I needed her name. She told me that her name was Youyou, that wasn't her name. When the main instructor came back with the class list we found out that she had an older sister that wouldn't be done with lessons until 8. That meant that this little girl would be left alone for forty five minutes. I don't understand how a father assumes that a little 3 or 4 year old can just sit in a studio where people are constantly in and out alone. She was allowed to hang out with the people at the front desk while she waited. I feel like it was very irresponsible for him to just leave her there.
Do you think it is okay to leave children alone for more then a few minutes without supervision?
Somehow, I'm leaning towards giving the father the benefit of the doubt and assuming that he didn't understand the scheduling mix-up. It's intersting, though, that I automatically do this. Like you said, it could just as well be a father who just assumed his young child would be taken care of during the extra time to save him a couple trips. I agree that whatever the reasons behind it, however, it was wrong to leave such a small girl alone and confused!
