Lunch Room Changes

Are the new changes to the lunch room efficient?

I think that the old system worked fine. With all the changes that happen every year the lunch room was not need to be changed. From observing during lunch it seems that it takes much longer for people to get through the lines then it used to. I went through them once and it took forever to get from point A to point B. I used to be able to get in and out of there pretty quickly if I chose to. Forcing people to take milk with their meal is wasteful. Many people are lactose in tolerant and can't even drink it. Another portion of people don't even drink milk. By forcing people to take it, it's wasting more then is need to.

  1. Anna- I agree that forcing people to take milk if they do not want it is a waste. Perhaps, they could offer some sort of reward for those who take milk? Your post made me think of something I've noticed at school, how many people tend to disagree with the plans of the administration. This seemingly ineffective lunch room renovation is one example. Another example is how the teachers seem to be unhappy with some of the administration's decisions. I think they feel like us sometimes, with people with more authority always telling you what to do. I just was thinking about that as I read this post. Thanks!

  2. Some of the changes are just administration decisions, like the remodel. However, the dietary changes (mandatory milk and veggies) are part of a national nutritional initiative (say that 3 times fast). It was a decision that these menu items would become mandatory to promote healthy eating, but of course people won't eat what they don't want if they're given it. It seems sad how much food is going to waste. At least offer more choice (and a little more quality would be appreciated).
PS: I say this as a kid who has brought brown-bag lunch for ALL of high school and maintained a mostly balanced diet throughout. Never since grade 8 have I tried the school food.
